Apple to RIM, “Thanks” – Halliburton Switches From Blackberry to iPhon

Halliburton Leaves Blackberry for iPhone

No surprise here. Apple is pressing it’s thumb on the competition of Research in Motion (can we even really use the word competition at this point?) as it takes a major corporate contract from RIM.

After many years of being sidelined in the corporate community by RIM, Apple’s iPhone is now being widely embraced in the corporate world since the release of the iPhone 4. The latest steal from Blackberry is Halliburton, the oil field services company giant. It says they plan to stop providing BlackBerry smartphones to employees and make the switch over to Apple’s iPhone stating that it said was better suited to its needs.

Spokeswoman Tara Mullee Agard said in an email to the Vancouver Sun on Tuesday: “We are making this transition in order to better support our mobile applications initiatives.”

Apple’s CFO Peter Oppenheimer said, “Nearly all of the top companies in the Fortune 500 now approve and support iPhone on their networks. This includes companies in markets such as financial services, consumer products, transportation, healthcare and insurance.”

Over the next two years Halliburton will switch 4,500 employees BlackBerry handhelds over to iPhones, Mullee Agard said.

Apple is helping to make this a smooth transition, she said.

This is just another example of how RIM is missing the boat and sticking with BB devices only. The former and current CEO’s are not in touch and in denial of their standings in the smartphone.

The only way to fix this is to open up Blackberry Enterprise Server to iOS & Android devices and allow third party email / PIM Apps to run on Blackberry devices.
