The winner of the Boston Innovation Prize is an eco-friendly air conditioner that is 30% more efficient than standard models and does this by using water vapor as a cooling agent.

Past attempts at using water vapor in air conditioners resulted in cost prohibitive air compressors which required expensive titanium. This water vapor version uses an innovative, lightweight turbo compressor with a motor that is actually woven out of high-strength fibers.

So not only would air conditioning units built with this eco-friendly technology use less energy, they would do so without using current refrigerants that have a negative impact on the environment.
