Panasonic Eco Light Changes Brightness, Saves Power

Panasonic will be releasing an energy saving eco-friendly light in March of this year. The Auto-Eco Light-Control Twin Pa will automatically adjust it’s light output (and consequently energy usage) based on the brightness of the room.

The eco light measures the brightness in a three-meter area below the lamp and adjusts its light to maintain a constant level of illumination in the room. It is essentially a lamp with an automatic dimmer switch.

Panasonic tests of the eco light showed that it reduced power consumption by approximately 60 percent. It comes in two models of 89 watts and 74 watts. The suggested retail price hasn’t been announced is expected to be sold for about $380 USD.

Panasonic needs any sort of edge it can get in the increasingly hostile electronics economic environment. They recently announced that they are cutting 15,000 jobs. The rising value of the yen combined with a sharp drop in purchases has hit Japanese exporters hard. Panasonic adjusted its forecast made on Nov. 27 that it would see a 2009 profit of 30 billion yen to a loss of 380 billion yen.
