Fallbrook Technologies has a transmission system that they claim could considerably increase efficiency in everything from cars to wind turbines. The most amazing part of the system, which they call the NuVinci Transmission, is that it doesn’t use any gears.

Now, as proof of the potential value in inherent in the NuVinci Transmission, Fallbrook Tech has announced that it has raised $25 million to boost production and develop new markets.

The statistics surrounding the NuVinci Transmissions is quite promising. Through its ability to augment the performance of belts and pumps it could improve mileage in a standard car by 12% - 15%. In an electric car battery life would be boosted by 30%!

So far Fallbrook Tech has only sold to bicycle manufacturers but they now plan to expand to electric-bikes and similar small electric vehicles.
